week 8 - 12

Week 8:
Research for output1; display at LCD to display the description of water quality level. Example; Water Quality level: Clean/ Moderate/ Dirty

Week 9:
Change concept a bit regarding to monitoring method. Previous method is more on personal monitoring system. As my supervisor brief to me, I should design a continuous monitoring system.
He give me the new idea: a system to monitor water quality from river – setup the system at 10 different location
Sensor reading the water flow, microcontroller (PSoC) will process and trigger the data to a server computer. The data is water quality level.


Week 10:
get better idea from ABASS pamphlet; monitoring station at 3 diff location before pumped into water treatment plant.

concept picture simplified by me. ABASS Konsortium have 3 river monitoring station along Semenyih river. The water from the river will be pumped into a water treatment plant before distributed to end user. The water treat program will be decided according to result from the last monitoring station. if the water very dirty, the level for treatment is high. so basically the monitoring station is to detect early warning or any contaminated so the treatment level can be decided.

for my FYP, I've decided to monitor 1 parameter only – water turbidity

Week 11:
get clear idea – to build a system that monitoring water turbidity. Purpose: early preparation for treatment rates at water treatment plants. As to optimize the features of PSoC board, use wifi adapter embedded in uC PSoC board. wifi – to trigger data in time interval

Week 12: presentation for sem 1 (fyp1).

       : - what diff PiC and PSoC = same function as other uC, just embedded some features (wifi, port for i/p o/p)
         - why only monitor turbidity = budget (other sensor costly for student + too advance)
         - How transmit data into server = use wifi adapter embedded

week 4 - 7

Week 4: Submit proposal


Week 5:
Research what to monitor, what method to choose.
Decide to monitor water quality – many parameters involved; turbidity, pH, mineral, chemical
Decide to use grab sample method – use clean tube or container to put water sample

    various picture taken from net regarding to water sampling

Why monitor water? for fishing, drinking (safe or not for drinking), swim; contaminated oily substance not suitable for our skin, wash – dirty water can’t use for cleaning


Week 6:
change method, grab sample method not suitable and not optimize for microcontroller (PSoC). 
I decided to use semi continuous monitor method. Model decided; prototype – attach on pipeline before sink
Idea to put sensor at the water pipe near the tap.

Idea – system will start monitor water quality when user open the tap, water will start flow. User can decide the usage of water according to result (output from PSoC) of water reading by sensor.
Clear – can use for drink (boiled), wash
Moderate – water will be filtered before can use for washing, not safe for drink even after boiled.
Dirty – can’t drink even after boiled, can’t wash at all.



Week 7:
Determined the input sensor will be use; Infra Red sensor as the idea & suggestion by my supervisor. Dr Zulkhairi get the idea from Intelligence Washing Machine; the machine will detect the level of cleanliness of water using infra red sensor. If dirty, it will keep washing until clean. i need to study how the Infrared sensor work to detect the water dirtiness
Doing some research for other sensor regarding water quality; pH sensor, O2 dissolved, chemical - all this sensor are very expensive, some reach RM1k. so it’s not suitable for my FYP.

other idea is to use LDR (Light Dependent Resistor) sensor. white LED will be used as light source and LDR sensor will detect the light from LED. if any contaminated flow through, the LDR will received less light signal. less light signal equal to dirty of water. full light detected means the water is clear.

after doing some research, this LDR sensor is not suitable for my project. i'm planning to use transparent tube for water flow. so the LDR's reading will be affected by ambient light, this is what we call 'light pollution'. so for the time being i've decided to use infrared sensor for the input

now i have a specific section (don't know what its supposed to be called) for my fyp. look at right side. any suggestion is very welcome.

S2 2010 + S1 2011 : hunting for a topic

stat awal sem lepas (S2 2010), sebenarnya hamba dah hadir sesi fyp briefing, cuma hamba belum amik S1 FYP masa tu. saje je hadir, amik feel suasana fyp student. so ada la faham sket2 pasal fyp. but the problem is i start to finding a topic since last sem, until this sem i didn't get any idea to do. my interest is in computer hardware and all about car especially about the perfomance.

all the idea come through my head seems not reliable for my FYP topic so i do ask to my friends. but still... most of them told me the same thing instead bring me the idea. they always told me "alah, u just pick an easy topic janji siap, don't choose that difficult one"... yes, maybe they didn't really understand that i really have no idea.

seboleh bolehnya memang nk yang simple. tp nanti khuatir markah pon 'simple' jugak.. cari punya cari, Hafizan provide me an simple idea about intelligence rear light (car). hurm.. idea tu cantik. tp still x amik jugak. dalam kepala ni macam tetiba je zero idea. btw thanks to hafizan sbb bg link kt tenet untuk cari topik.
